Thank you Dorsey for always being so glad to see friends new or old. For making them feel special with your smiles and your words. Thank you for the pearls of wisdom sprinkled in the humor! Thank you for sharing your love of Jesus with everyone you met. Thank you for exemplifying a Godly husband and father. Thank you for modeling a life well and completely lived.

We remember Dorsey and his love for his Lord, his family, and his church.

"His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'" Matt.25:21

God be with you all.

Paul was a coworker of Dorsey's for many years. He & Carolyn were quick to befriend us as a couple upon our arrival here, & invited us to eat with them. Later, when we had children, he was very interested in them, always wanting me to bring them to the school to visit so he could keep up with their development & growth. He would make just the funniest faces & noises to get them to laugh out loud! Later when they were older, he always made them feel very special. Once Jack told me, "Mr. Derrick thinks I'm a smart kid." Joe said "Did you know Mr. Derrick has lots of jokes?" Now, that comment made me feel a little nervous because Joe was known to have quite a few jokes, too, some of which had come from the firehall. I always wondered what joke Joe had told Dorsey to bring about that comment.

Carolyn, children, & grandchildren--just know this man was loved by so many, impacted the lives of so many, & will not be forgotten by just as many. Thanks for sharing him with so many of us.

Just as I would have expected, there are many lovely messages to Dorsey's family because of his great service to the communities where he lived and worked . He will be missed by many, but there is comfort in knowing he is at peace with his Maker. May your good memories, family & friends, and your Faith bring you comfort and strength in the coming days. God Bless each of you!

Dorsey was a great friend to our family. We met Dorsey when our daughter was in his class at school and then through church. That grew into a true, lasting friendship. Bob and Dorsey shared a lot of common interests in farming, cattle and horses. They would talk for hours about these interests. Dorsey had a great sense of humor and was a very wise man.

We will sincerely miss Dorsey, our thoughts and prayers go out to Carolyn and their family.

Not only was he my pastor, he was a surrogate father to me while I was living in Iowa. Ever encouraging, he guided me down my spiritual path as well as personal. I consider myself lucky to have been baptized by such an inspiration. I spent a great deal of time with Dorsey and Carolyn outside of church and learned so much from them about life, love, disappointment and how God will see you through anything. My heart goes out to Carolyn and the rest of his family, he loved so very much. Thank you for sharing him with us. His impact on me was life changing, as I'm sure it was on others. I will see you again Dorsey, in the sweet by and by. Rest easy.

I taught next door to Dorsey for several years at North Elementary. He was like a mentor to me, full of encouragement, humor, and advice my first years of teaching. He was always so passionate about his teaching, and he loved to share about his family. He was so proud of them! Thanks, Dorsey, for getting me off to a good start in my teaching career. I still think about you, 30 years later.

Rev. Derrick baptized me when I was 14, and was a guiding force in pointing me in the direction to walk with Christ. I thank him for putting up with all our teenage antics, and loving us despite them!

RIP Mr. Derrick! Had you as a 6th grade teacher. You were the only person I have ever known that liked to eat "black" bananas! To this day whenever I see a black banana I think of you! You were a great teacher!

Dear Dorsey family,
A fellow teacher in Osceola shared the news of Dorsey's passing. We extend our sympathy and prayers for all of you. We remember Dorsey as an excellent teacher who always had time for his students. I worked with Dorsey when we rented the space from the church for our Head Start Program in Osceola. He was always fair and honest to deal with. I appreciated that very much. His word meant everything. Frank and Dianne Riley

One of my most favorite teachers of all time! Always had so much fun in his class. Until the day he read a note I was passing to a boy I liked in front of the class! Ha Ha! Taught me a good lesson that day! Loved this man!

I first met Bro. Dorsey after we moved to Iowa in 2003. He soon became one of my biggest encouragers. He took a genuine interest in me, my family and our ministry. He always asked how things were going and would tell me of the difficulties and blessing he encountered when he first came to Iowa. He has left footprints of faithfulness all over this area. I count it a privilege to have known him and to walk where he walked.

I will always fondly remember Dorsey for his significant contribution to the development of Southern Baptist work in Iowa, his work starting and pastoring the Osceola church, and his involvement in South Central Association. It has been for me a privilege to know him and to have shared in his life and ministry.
