Carol Moberg, 82, of Creston, died Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Father Ken Halbur will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016, with family receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Carol Lois (Petrie) Moberg was born on January 5, 1934, in Creston, a daughter to Arthur Allen Petrie and Lois Lillian (Quin) Petrie. She graduated from Creston High school with the class of 1951 and furthered her education at SWCC for two more years. She settled in Denver and worked at Gates Rubber Company followed by Travelers Insurance until she moved back to Creston in 1969. While in Creston, Carol was a social worker at the Department of Human Services and also obtained her real estate brokers license.
On October 26, 1971, Carol was united in marriage to Jon Moberg. They settled in Creston before moving to Des Moines where Carol worked for Work Force Development in 1987 and continued there until her retirement in 1999. Following her retirement, Carol owned and operated their winery and vineyard after moving to Sun Valley Lake in 2000 and returned to Creston in 2013.
Carol was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Alter & Rosary Society in Creston, board member at Crestmoor and Girl Scout Leader. She also was formerly the President of Republican Women, Women's Golf at Wakonda and also Questers. Carol helped to organize and build the Law Enforcement Center in Creston along with being involved in the VFW Auxiliary. Carol was an artist; whether on a canvas, in the garden, as a cook or decorating their home. She enjoyed playing golf and loved watching football: she favored the Denver Broncos and Iowa State Cyclones.
Left to cherish Carol's memory is her husband Jon; three daughters, Charla Bruce of Denver, Colo., Jean Johnson of Ankeny, Ia., and Jennifer (husband Dr. Mike) Geis of West Des Moines; son Dr. Alexander (wife Dr. Teresa) Szabo of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Katrina Bruce of Denver, Colo., Charla Kilbert of Zurich, Switzerland, Daniel Shields of Denver, Colo., Erin (husband Sean) Barrett of Denver, Colo., Mia Szabo of Chapel Hill, N.C., Alexis (husband Nick) Roberts of Winterset, Charmaine Johnson of Ames, Ross Geis of West Des Moines and Reese Geis of West Des Moines; great grandchildren, Brooklynn and Callie Roberts; along with other extended relatives and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, sister Gwen Megrew and brother Don Petrie.
