Evelyn (Smisek) Lewis, daughter of Mary (Zvolanek) Smisek and Stanley Smisek, was born on August 12, 1922 in Wilbur, Neb. She graduated from Wilbur High School in 1940.
On Feb. 18, 1948, Evelyn married Earl E. Lewis in Creston, Ia. Most of her life was spent as a homemaker. Though she had a physical disability, she never allowed it to interfere with taking care of her family. Baking, gardening, sewing and helping on the farm were her joy. She also loved spending time with her family.
After retiring from the farm, they moved to Orient and joined the Orient Plymouth Congregational church. In 2006, they moved to assisted living in West Des Moines.
Evelyn is survived by her four daughters, Pat (Mac) McLey of West Des Moines, Janet (Steve) Olson of Ames, Jean (George) Johnson of West Des Moines, Darlene (Gary) Bateman of Ottawa, Kan.; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister-in-law, Mary Smisek of Creston.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl in 2012, and a brother, Stanley Smisek, Jr.
