Leota Blazek, 82, of Creston, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Cromwell United Church of Christ, in Cromwell, IA. Pastor Delores Doench will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell. No visitation will be held. Memorials are to the Cromwell United Church of Christ. Leota Mae "Tootie" Blazek was born May 30, 1931, in Orient, Iowa in Adair County, to Olive Athelia (Everling) James and Lester William James. She graduated from Cromwell High School in 1949. On November 25, 1950, Leota was united in marriage to Dale Dean Blazek at the Cromwell Church, in Cromwell, IA. They settled on a farm in Adams County where she was a housewife and worked as a telephone switch board operator. They moved to Creston in 1956. In 1966, Blazek Trenching was established and Leota was co-owner/operator with her husband Dale. Leota was a member of the Cromwell United Church of Christ, Women's Fellowship, Active Cromwell Alumni Association and the Old Thyme Power Club.
Leota is survived by her spouse Dale Dean Blazek of Creston, IA; one son, Kevin (wife Marcy) Blazek of Greenfield, IA; one daughter, Sue (husband Jim) KinKennon of Papillion, NE; four grandchildren, Sara (husband Travis) Thomsen, of Sidney, NE; Chad (wife Amy) KinKennon, of O'Neill, NE; Kenneth Blazek of Greenfield, IA and Joel Blazek of Greenfield, IA; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Brylee Thomsen of Sidney, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester William and Olive Athelia James.
