Anita M. Thomas, 67 of Creston died Sunday, June 26, 2011 in Glenwood while visiting family. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Father Joseph Pins will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be 2-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston, with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 p.m., with a 7:30 Rosary. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be given under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com.

Anita Marie Thomas was born June 17, 1944 in Creston to Helen Genevieve (Miller) and Leo Glenn Hayes. She attended grade school at St. Malachy School and graduated from Creston High School in 1963. Anita worked at the Rosary Hospital in Corning as a nurse’s aid. On June 25, 1965 she was united in marriage to Dale Edward. They lived in Corning and Creston for a short time. While Dale was in the National Guard and later the United States Navy they lived in many communities including Connecticut, Virginia and California. During this time Anita was a homemaker. In 1986, they returned to Creston and Anita worked as a nursing assistant at Crest Haven Care Centre and Greater Regional Hospital, retiring in 2010. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, D.C.C.W. and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Survivors include her mother: Helen Hayes of Creston; one daughter: Angela (husband Will) Jaques of Des Moines; one son: Anthony Thomas (fiancé Crystal Brown) of Afton; 8 grandchildren: Cole, Deavon and Logan Richards, Darian and Quiten Jaques of Des Moines, Rylee, Anthony and Gage Thomas of Afton, four brothers: David Hayes of San Diego, Bill (wife Janet) Hayes of Afton, Mark (Carol Krings) Hayes of Creston, Jamie (wife Virginia) Hayes of Creston, two sisters: Jacki Gephart of San Diego, Betty (husband Richard) Baker of Creston, Mary Lynn (husband Arlin) Beemer of Mason City, two brothers in-law: Cliff (wife Deloris) Thomas of Glenwood, Dale Bowman of Corning, three sisters in-law: June Blizzard, Dixie Stieber, both of Shenandoah and Barb Thomas of Glenwood; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, husband Dale in 2004, two brother’s in-law: Sam Thomas and Gene Stieber and five sister’s in-law: Betty Bowman, Bonnie Marcus, Jeannie Roberti, Marge Fort and Dorothy in infancy.
