Doris Trenkle, 74, of Creston, passed away Monday, June 06, 2011 at Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Powers Funeral Home at the junction of hwys. 34 and 25 in Creston. Pastor Dianna Clark will officiate the service. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to be established. Doris Darlene (Overholtzer) Trenkle was born September 8, 1936 to Lowell “Red” Overholtzer and Juanita (Jimmerson) Overholtzer in Creston, Iowa. Doris graduated from Creston High School in 1954. Doris married Joe Brown and to this union were two sons, Michael Gene Brown and Bruce Wayne Brown. They later divorced. On April 4, 1959 Doris was united in marriage to Donald Raymond Trenkle in Grant City, Mo. To this union two daughters were born, Mary Jane Bishop and Brenda Dawn Norman. She worked as a waitress at a restaurant owned by Ted and Dora Wilson. Doris was a homemaker and sold Sarah Coventry Jewelry. She later sold Avon and worked at K-Mart. Doris also drove the star mail route for the United States Postal Service. Her most recent job was handing out samples at different stores.

Doris was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston, member of and two term past president of VFW 1797 Auxiliary, member of American Legion Auxiliary, and past member of CWF Circle.

Doris is survived by; her husband, Don “Pete” Trenkle of Marshalltown; two sons, Michael (wife Rose) Brown of Tulsa, Okla. and Bruce Brown of Creston; two daughters, Mary Jane (husband Butch) Bishop and Brenda Norman of Atlantic; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Virginia Luther Hilman of Creston; three sisters in-law, Arlene Overholtzer of Creston, Betty (husband Don) Schowalter of Des Moines and Kathryn (husband Clarence) Sewell of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by; her parents; brother, Carl Overholtzer; sister, Janice Bartunek.
