Doris L. McIntosh, 85, of Creston, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston surrounded by her family and friends. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Dan Moore will officiate. Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be 2-8:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston, with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday. Memorials are to be established. Online condolences may be made under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com.
Doris Louise (Himiller) McIntosh was born March 16, 1926 in Villisca, Iowa to Flossie L. (Christie) Himiller and Harry H. Himiller. Doris graduated from Villisca High School in 1944. On November 6, 1942 Doris was united in marriage to Willard Paul McIntosh in Villisca. Born to this union was, one daughter Kathryn and also a special nephew Tim who was like a son to them and made his home with them at a young age. They lived in Villisca and later moved to Creston where Doris was a homemaker, wonderful mom and grandmother. She also helped out as a dispatcher for her and Willard's trucking business and delivered meals on wheels.
She loved her rose garden and growing pumpkins and then having all the school children come to the pumpkin patch to pick just that right one. She loved going to all the school plays, musicals, marching bands and color guard contests that her granddaughter Chelsea was in. She never missed a one and was always ready to go even if it was 3:00 a.m. in the morning.
She was a grandma and aunt to a lot of people and children and loved doing things with her nieces and nephews. She always had candy for all the children when they stopped by. She loved the holidays, particularly Thanksgiving with all the fall colors. She loved her church and placing the flowers on the alter each week. She was part of the evening fellowship and was always there with a helping hand. Doris was a member of the St. Johns United Church of Christ in Creston, a hostess at the historical site and volunteered at the Greater Regional Medical Center.
She will be missed by her family and friends. Doris is survived by; daughter, Kathryn Kay Carter of Creston & her granddaughter: Chelsea Kay Carter of Des Moines; special nephew: Tim (fiancée Melinda) McIntosh of Creston; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: John & Betty McIntosh of Creston and sister-in-law: Kathie McIntosh of Caulfield, Mo. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Amanda (husband Jarod) Beede of Des Moines, Ia., Virginia Harlan of Creston, Tim, Jr. (wife Randi Jo) McIntosh of Liberty, Mo., Lisa McIntosh (fiancée Chris Ludwig) of Creston, Tiffany Perkins of Clear Lake, Ia., Tina Etzen of Creston and Tonya Etzen of Creston; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband Willard in 2002 and her sister and brother-in-law.
