Marvin "Frank" Burdess, 72, of Osceola, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Church of Christ Church in Murray. Pastor Brian McCracken will officiate. Burial will be at Murray Cemetery. Open visitation, with family receiving friends will be from 9 to 10:00 a.m. service time on Saturday at the Church of Christ Church in Murray. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to American State Bank PO Box 463, Osceola, Iowa 50213 for a Burdess Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com.
Marvin Franklin Burdess was born September 18, 1940 in Woodburn, Iowa to Lillie Fern (Grove) Burdess and Albert Robert Burdess. He attended school in the Weldon High School. On September 2, 1962, Frank was united in marriage in Council Bluffs, IA. to Mary Elaine Poil. They lived in Colo, IA., where he was an auto parts puller, then moved to Omaha, Neb. and worked as a tree surgeon, Redfield, Ark., as a VW specialist, Sheridan, Ark., as a lumber jack and then to Des Moines to work as a VW specialist and foreign cars imports. He then moved back to Redfield, Ark and worked as a VW specialist and then Vilonia, Ark. as a heavy equipment mechanic. Frank was a member of the Vilonia Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized in January 1975.
Survivors include his wife Mary Elaine Burdess of Osceola, Ia., two sons Thomas Anthony Burdess of Cassville, Mo., Travis Brian Burdess of Tulsa, Okla., two daughters Juliana Christine (husband Michael) Hernandez of Wasilla, Alaska., Joella DeAnne (husband Marty) Perry of Osceola, IA., three brothers Warren H. Burdess of Boone, IA., Lester M. Burdess of Sheridan, Ark., Ray Dean (wife Carol) Burdess of Weldon, IA., five sisters Twyla M. Gochanour of Osceola, IA., Lila Jean Simmons of Denver, Colo., Judith A. (husband Dennis) Welch of Sheridan, Ark., Doris E. (husband Larry) Wineland of Des Moines, IA., Beverly L. Stillian of Eudora, Kan., ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Lillie Burdess, twin sister Mary Frances Burdess, four brothers John David, Glenn Dale, Norman Lee and Lyle Gilbert Burdess and his great-grandchildren Hunter L. Burdess and twins Lillian and Waylon Still.
