Paul Grumley, 78, of Creston, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009. at the Greater Regional Hospice Home. Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston. Pastor Ron Darge will officiate. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston at a later date. Open visitation will be 2-8:00 PM Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston, with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 PM. Memorials are to the Salem Lutheran Church or Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston. Online condolences may be made under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com.
Paul Gene Grumley was born January 22, 1931 in DeWitt, Iowa to Lola M. (Fish) and Charles Francis Grumley. He graduated from DeWitt High School in 1948 and entered the US Navy on August 1, 1948, being discharged in July 27, 1952. On September 5, 1953, Paul was united in marriage to Patricia A. (Heimsoth) in Aurelia, Iowa. He went on to receive his BA from Buena Vista, MA and Ed SP from Drake University and other graduate studies at Colorado State. Paul taught History and English in Ocheyedan, IA from 1955-59, was High School Principal in Meeker, Colo. from 1959-63, Superintendent of Schools in Ocheyedan, IA from 1963-69, in Greene, IA from 1969-78, in Creston from 1978-91 and Midland of Wyoming, IA from 1991-1995, retiring on June 30, 1995.
Paul was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Creston, Past President of Creston Chamber of Commerce, Crestmoor Golf Club, Elks Lodge in Creston, AASA-SAI-ISEA, past member of the Rotary, Lions Club and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Patricia A. Grumley of Creston; one son: Kerry J. Grumley of Creston; one daughter: Linda K. (husband Cliff) Fry of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandsons: Alex, Paul and Joel Fry and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Lola Grumley, two brothers: Fran and Mark Grumley and one sister Ruth Cranny.
