Ruth Rhine

Ruth Rhine, 94, of Creston, died Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Creston. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery, north of Prescott.

Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 22, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Powers Funeral Home junctions of highways 34 and 25 in Creston. EASTERN STAR SERVICE will be at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the Crest Haven Care Centre and the First United Methodist Church, both of Creston.

Ruth (Landa) Rhine, daughter of John R. Landa and Gina (Boli) Landa was born October 13, 1917 at DeSart North Dakota. Ruth graduated from Moorhead High School in Moorhead Minnesota.

On October 15, 1938, Ruth married Harvey E. Rhine in Moorhead, Minn. They moved to Iowa and settled in the Prescott area in the late 1930's. Ruth was a homemaker and farmwife. She taught Sunday school at the Prescott Church for many years. In 1981, they retired and moved to Creston. Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Creston, Order of the Eastern Star of Bedford, the Adams County Farm Bureau and formerly active with the Friendly Neighborhood Club.

Ruth is survived by daughter Jan (husband Ralph) Dillinger of Creston; two sons, Richard (wife Judy) Rhine of Denison, Ia. and David (wife Tammy) Rhine of Creston; a brother-in-law Ronald Rhine of Aledo, Ill.; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, her husband Harvey in 1996, two granddaughters, Traci and Christy Rhine, a great-grandson, Sawyer James Rhine, four sisters, Anna Fahrmann and Esther Peterson and two in infancy, and two brothers in infancy, two step-sisters and a step-brother.
