Charles L. "Chuck" Johnson, 60, of Waukee, formerly of Creston, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center West Lakes in West Des Moines.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012 at the Powers Funeral Home junction of highways 34 and 25 in Creston. Mary O'Riley will officiate. Burial will be private at a later date.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Wed. service time. Flag presentation will be by the Theodore J. Martens Post 1797 of the Creston V.F.W. Memorials may be directed in his name. Online condolences can be left at www.powersfh.com.
Charles Lowell Johnson, son of Kenneth Owen Johnson and Eva Viola (Long) Johnson, was born April 25, 1951 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from Oakland High School in Oakland, Iowa in 1969. He entered the United States Army in July of 1971, later being honorably discharged. He went through many training programs in various technical fields thoughout his life. Early on, he managed a Union 66 Truck Stop in Council Bluffs, worked as a welder, managed a cattle farm operation, opened and managed various Mexican restaurants and Pizza Huts. Chuck has had a passion for rebuilding cars and equipment. He was trained and worked as an Emergency Medical Technician in Onawa. He worked for Smith Concrete in Creston from 1985 to 1997. Chuck worked for Sun Pumping in Des Moines from 1997 to 2008. Since 2008, he has worked as an over-the-road Truck Driver. Chuck was a former member of the American Legion Post #70 of Creston, where he had served as commander.
Survivors include his son, Larry (wife Summer) Murdock of Creston; his grandson, Evan Murdock of Creston; his sister, Lois Smith of Creston; two brothers, Jim Johnson of Council Bluffs and Dick (wife Cheryl) Johnson of Lincoln, Neb.; two nieces, Kellie (husband Bill) Pickett and Samantha (husband Justin) Clinkinbeard, both of Omaha, Neb.; two nephews, Chris (wife Leslie) Johnson of Redondo Beach, Calif. and Rusty (wife Leanne) Smith of Indianola, Ia.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents.
