David Crago, 69, of Afton, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 on his farm from injuries due to a tractor accident. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday February 6, 2012 at the St. Edward Catholic Church in Afton. Burial will be in the St. Edward Cemetery in Afton. Military Graveside rites by the John B. Parks Post #8882, VFW in Afton. Open visitation will be from 12 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5th with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Powers Funeral Home 612 North Dodge in Afton. Memorials are to the St. Edwards Catholic Cemetery in Afton.
David Adams Crago, son of Harry Estep Crago and Irene Ellen (Adams) Crago was born August 2, 1942 in Diagonal, Iowa. David was educated in Oregon, Council Bluffs and Shannon City schools. He served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963. On May 7, 1966, David was united in marriage to Mary Marlene Weinkoetz in Afton. They settled in the Afton area and farmed all of their married life. He also milked dairy cows for many years. David additionally, worked for the Farmers Coop in Afton, Hills-Mechana, and later as Wellmans-Dynamics, Farleys and Sathers and Iowa Select. He retired from farming in 2007. David was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Afton.
David is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (husband Mark) Bunker of Creston; a son, Darrin Crago (friend Lisa Fry) of Afton; five grandchildren, Brandon and Brittney Bunker, Jenna, Jeremiah and Justy Crago; brother-in-law, Don Roche of Wymore, Neb.; sister-in-law, Judy Weinkoetz of Afton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary in 2006, his sister, Marilyn Roche and his brother-in-law, Joe Weinkoetz.
