Florence R. Shum, 84, of Creston, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. Memorial services will be 10:30 am Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 at the Summit House in Creston. Pastor Jerry White will officiate the service. No visitation will be held. Graveside services and burial will be in the North Lawn Cemetery, near North Adams, Mich. at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials will be to Cancer Society of Iowa, Heart Association of Iowa or donation of your choice. Online condolences may be left under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com

Florence Rocene Shum, daughter of Gertrude May (Daniels) and Ray Herman Walters was born June 4, 1927, in North Adams, Mich. She graduated from North Adams High School in 1945 as valedictorian. She later attended Acme Business College in Lansing, Mich. In 1948 Florence went to work, as a book keeper for O'Meara and Company in Hillsdale, Mich. On February 17, 1951 she married John Alfred Frantz in Jackson, Mich. In 1985 Florence retired and moved to Mission, Texas. She began working for A.T.E. Phone Mart for the next two years. Florence's husband John passed away August 3, 1994. On June 9, 1996 Florence married Hilding R. Shum in Creston, Iowa. Hilding passed away May 20, 2008.

Florence was a member of the Creston United Methodist Church, the Pythian Sisters Temple 146 of Hillside, Mich., earning her past chief's certificate; past member of Order of the Eastern Star of Clearfield and attended the North Adams Methodist Church in Mich.

Florence is survived by her brother Charles (wife Peggy) Walters of Watauga, Texas; three step-daughters Linda Clark of Creston, Iowa, Janet (husband Jeff) Haley of Grinnell, Iowa and Sandra (husband Dave) Anderson of Rapid City, S.D.; 8 step-grandchildren and 27 step-great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-great-children; three nieces: Karen (husband Steve) Dewey of North Adams, Mich., Sue (husband Allan) Cook of Hillsdale, Mich. and Linda (husband Timm) Warren of North Richland Hills, Texas; two nephews: Barry (wife Kimberly) Walters of Oceanside, Calif. and Brian (wife Sandra) Walters of Weslaco, Texas.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands: John Frantz and Hilding Shum; sister: Martha Bumpus; brother in-law: Richard Bumpus; half-brother: Herman Walters; step-son in-law: Bill Clark and a nephew: Michael Bumpus.
