John Murren, 80, of Creston passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Creston Nursing & Rehab Center in Creston. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at Powers Funeral Home junction of highways 25 and 34 in Creston. Pastor Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be at Guss Cemetery, southwest of Corning. Military rites will be done by Theodore J. Martens Post #1797 of Creston. Open visitation will be 2-8:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday. Memorials can be directed to the family. John Wesley Murren was born July 20, 1931 in Page County at home on the farm. He attended Villisca High School. He entered the US Army in Feb. 1952, serving until Feb. 1954. On December 17, 1954 John was united in marriage to Shirley Ann (Fearnot). They later divorced. John lived in the Clarinda and Bedford area where he farmed until moving to Creston and started working at Wellman's, where he worked for 25 years, retiring in 1993. John was a member of the American Legion Post #70 of Creston.

Survivors include one daughter: Karen (husband Chuck) Johnson of Lenox, Ia.; two sons, Michael (wife Jerri) Murren of Nevinville, Ia. and Duane (Billi Vavra) Murren of Lenox; six grandchildren, Jeremiah and Jenifer Johnson, Tara (husband Dusty) Lawrence, Noble Murren, and Abby and Will Vavra; two great-granddaughters, Hallie Claiser and Jovie Lawrence; two brothers, Oliver Murren of Villisca and Gene (wife Marlena) Murren of Erie, Colo.; three sisters, Wilma Frodsham of New Market, Leona Templeton in Red Oak, and Ellen Wardlow of Kansas City, Mo. John was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Charles Stanley Murren in infancy, two sisters, Roena Reed and Catherine Calhoun, and two brothers-in-law, Leonard Calhoun and Ed Frodsham.
