Myrtle V. Brown Loomis, 92, of Creston, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center in Creston. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at the Powers Funeral Home junction of highways 34 and 25 in Creston. Pastor Chuck Spindler will officiate. Burial will be at the Murray Cemetery. Visitation with family receiving friends from 1-2:00 p.m. services time Friday, at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials may be made in Myrtle's Name. Myrtle Velva (Smith) Loomis, daughter of Robert Jeremiah Smith and Elva Leona (Boswell) Smith, was born March 11, 1919 in Decatur County, Iowa. She was educated in Ringgold County schools. On Nov. 30, 1940, Myrtle married Leland C. Brown in Creston, Iowa. They first settled in Decatur County. They later lived and worked in Clarke County in the 1940's, moving to Thayer in the late 40's. They continued to live on a farm south of Thayer until 1981, when they moved to Creston. Myrtle worked as a cook at the Leisure Manor from 1974 to 1979 in Osceola. Later, she worked as a cook for the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center from 1979 to 1984. Leland died in August of 1983. On Nov. 9, 1991, Myrtle married Clarence Loomis in Ellston. They made their home in Creston. Clarence died in 1993. Myrtle was a member of the Crest Baptist Church in Creston.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Anderson of Bovey, Minn. and Margaret Hawxby of Des Moines; two sons, Don (wife Jotie) Brown of Mt. Pleasant and Richard (wife Janet) Brown of Creston; step-daughter, Leola (husband Ivan) Dolecheck of Mt. Ayr; 13 grandchildren, Ed (wife Lynn) Anderson, Tressa (husband Kyle) Vrieze, Susanna (husband Duglas) Sanchez, Ezekial (wife Toni) Eggers, Deborah Weathers, Hezekiah and Rebekah Eggers, Josh (wife Jennifer) Brown, Sarah (husband Steve) Epperson, Bethany and Jordon Brown, Kelly Stull and Patrick Brown; 26 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Oma Smith of Panora and Gladys Smith of Cedar Rapids.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Leland Brown, and Clarence Loomis, two sons-in-laws, Alfred Anderson and Larry Hawxby, a step-son, Don Loomis, five sisters, six brothers, and two grandsons-in-law, Jeff Weathers and Steve Carpenter.
