Robert Hill, 68 of Afton died Monday December 26, 2011 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Private family services will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left under the obituary category of www.powersfh.com.
Robert Lemuel Hill was born June 1, 1943 in Bassett, Ark. to Susie Katherine Stout and Merle Vandaman Hill. He lived in Blytheville, Ark. and graduated from Armorel High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Lois in San Diego, Calif. and they later divorced. On February 19, 1967 he was united in marriage to Janice Mary Harris in Blytheville, Ark. They settled in San Diego area where he did mechanic work and also managed a storage business from 1994-2001. They moved to Afton in 2001. He owned and operated Chevron Gas Station and taught ASE/BAR Auto repair classes. Robert was a softball and baseball coach and also President of softball and baseball leagues.
Survivors include his wife: Janice Hill of Afton; 5 daughters: Rhonda Hill, Rayne Hill, Reonna George, all of San Diego, Calif.; Alissa (husband Chris) Schmitz of Afton; Tara Harris of Virginia Beach, Va. and one son: Jeffrey (wife Heather) Hill of Afton; two brothers: Leon (wife Martha) Hill of Alexandria, Ala.; Danny Atchley; three sisters: Faye Welch of Blytheville, Ark.; Gloria (husband Ed) Jones of Mt Airy, S.C.; Mary (husband Ronnie) Harris of Mt. Airy, S.C.; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Billy Joe, one sister: Betty Sue and his brother-in-law: Bruce Welch.
